According to my knowledge, TVB fired Eddie in 1996 because he was involved in other projects while he was under a contract.

He then went onto work in Taiwan, Mainland, and Singapore. His post-TVB career was somewhat successful, as he continued to receive meaty roles in his series.

After the exodus of veteran (former) TVB frontmen such as Felix Wong and Eddie Cheung, TVB signed him on again in 2002.
